It would be safe to say that we have a healthcare crisis in this country and that The Affordable Care Act will not be the final answer regarding how to solve it. The crisis is the result of a disturbing trifecta: rising costs, not enough accountability and transparency, and lousy results.  We as a country spend more on healthcare than any other industrialized nation and yet we have data that shows that tens of thousands of people die every year in hospitals because of preventable medical errors. We rank 39th in the world for infant mortality and 36th for life expectancy...Continue Reading

Peerless

Peerless, Be Articulate, Pr, Author, Marketing, Book Writing,

Most often the right thing to do is not always the easiest. In fact, it rarely is. And, in leadership, that is doubly true, and the temptation is always there to take a shortcut.

But real leadership has no shortcuts. It requires time and passion and sacrifice. And, out there among the throngs of managers and officers in companies all across the land, a peerless group of leaders are showing the rest of us that building a great workplace and building a successful organization do not have to be mutually exclusive endeavors...Continue Reading

Reversing The Senses

So, you’ve arrived. You’ve accomplished all the things you
set out to achieve. This should be the greatest time of your
life, right? But, there’s a nagging feeling that you can’t shake, and it is impacting your ability to lead your organization. Even worse… it’s affecting your health and home life. Is there some practical way to effectively deal with it? The answer is a resounding yes, according to
Martin Hubbard, author of REVERSING THE SENSES
(River Grove Books, 2014). In fact, that nagging feeling is
actually very common to most high achievers. Many CEO’s
and business leaders feel like they’ll be exposed at any
minute and people will discover that they are not as smart
or capable as they are “supposed” to be, especially when
holding lofty positions of power and prestige. Continue Reading

Designing Your Ideal Life

Life is short. Many people blindly go through the motions of living, but are not happy and don't know why.  You only have to look around at the people who seemingly have everything going for them to realize that many of them are not happy either.  Movie stars, athletes, musicians – we are surrounded by talented people who have money and fame and are still, for the most part, miserable. The people who drown their emotions with alcohol, drugs, food, sex, or other addictions are clearly trying to escape from something. What are they missing?  Why are they so unhappy? Backstage Past

Long before there were $500 dollar tickets to see The Stones, and faceless global promoters of music shows and venues, there were perhaps 5 kings in the rock and roll concert business. Bands learned quickly who cared about them and their work and they gravitated back to them over and over again, producing unforgettable concert experiences and music that still lives on today...Continue Reading

It is clear that The Great Recession has changed everything. Public officials across the land are facing unprecedented budget shortfalls and are in a desperate search for ways to keep services at or above their current levels. As often happens, this type of chaos and confusion is filled with opportunities. Companies willing to deal with the nuances and subtleties of doing business with government will find a trillion dollar marketplace and an abundance of immediate opportunities. Governments dealing with limited budgets can, in turn, find the resources they need from the private sector. At this critical juncture, government and business desperately need each other. Time is of the essence as many cities and states find themselves on the precipice...Continue Reading

We rank 39th in the world for infant mortality and 36th for life expectancy. The Time For Yes

It’s that time again. The time when we make new resolutions and evaluate where we are and where we want to be.   Often these resolutions are about losing weight or gaining control of our finances, or making that trip we always dreamed of. But what about resolving to do something even bigger and to make even more important and permanent changes than that? What about resolving to find the ONE THING we were built to do, that ONE THING that just by doing it would bring us the greatest contentment and joy and might even change the world a little? Is that even possible? Continue Reading

Of Great Worth

It would probably be no stretch to say that every marriage goes through some rough spots, long spells where the fireworks are quiet, and the fire seems to have gone out. These treks through the valleys can be dangerous times for couples. In a world where many have given up on the institution of marriage entirely and half end in divorce, it would be safe to say that many are not successfully navigating through the troubled times and arriving safely to the other side. The Power of a Teacher

It would be safe to say that no teacher takes the job for the money. Instead, their goal is to change the world a little bit, one student at a time. But as the years and the frustrations of the job begin to stack up, the mission gets lost somewhere along the way, and teaching becomes a job instead of a calling. Adam Saenz, author of The Power of a Teacher: Restoring Hope and Well-being to Change Lives (Intermedia, June 1, 2012) says that it doesn’t have to be like that, and that it’s possible to rekindle the passion that got you into teaching in the first place.
